By participating in Based India, we aim to demonstrate how our platform can empower Indian users and others worldwide to monetize their insights on a wide range of topics, including sports, politics, and financial markets, all within a transparent and secure on-chain ecosystem.

We are tackling several critical challenges that are prevalent in both web2 and web3 prediction markets:

Delayed Settlement of Outcomes: Traditional prediction platforms often take several days to settle and distribute winnings, leading to frustration among users. This delay reduces engagement and hampers trust, as users prefer faster results, especially in dynamic markets like sports and crypto.

Geographic and Regulatory Limitations: Many traditional platforms like Kalshi and Probo are limited to specific regions due to regulatory constraints. This limits liquidity and reduces the number of events that users can participate in, creating a fragmented market experience.

Lack of Real-Time Data and Dynamic Odds: Current web3 prediction platforms, such as Polymarkets, lack the ability to handle dynamic, real-time events efficiently. For example, in fast-moving sports events or rapidly fluctuating financial markets, odds need to change frequently, which is something current web3 platforms struggle with.

Complex Web3 User Experience: For new users unfamiliar with blockchain, onboarding onto web3 prediction platforms can be daunting. The requirement to use wallets, manage seed phrases, and deal with gas fees creates significant friction, preventing mainstream adoption.

ForeCast is designed with a mission to overcome these exact issues by leveraging the strengths of Base and focusing on a user-first, globally accessible platform. Here’s how we address each challenge:

Instant Settlements: Our platform offers immediate settlement of prediction outcomes, using Base’s infrastructure to facilitate fast transactions. This removes the frustration users often face with delayed payments and enhances engagement by allowing users to access their winnings immediately after an event concludes.

Global Access Without Geographical Barriers: ForeCast is a decentralized, on-chain platform, meaning users from any part of the world can participate in prediction markets without being restricted by location. This opens up liquidity and event participation on a global scale, creating a seamless experience for users regardless of where they are based.

Transparent and Fair Markets: Leveraging blockchain technology, every event on ForeCast is transparent and verifiable on-chain. This ensures that outcomes cannot be tampered with, and users can trust that their predictions are fairly settled.

Real-Time Odds and Market Adjustments: Although we are still optimizing this feature for rapid, dynamic markets like sports, our current platform provides efficient market creation and settlement, offering real-time updates for price-based markets.

Mobile-first UX with Web2 Experience: Our platform is built with a mobile-first design, ensuring that users on smartphones can easily navigate and participate without needing to deal with the complexities of traditional web3 interfaces. To address the high barrier to entry, we have plans to implement social login for users. This feature removes the need for complicated seed phrases and ensures that users can get started with just a few clicks

Building an on-chain prediction platform like ForeCast came with its set of challenges:

Scalability and Performance: One of the main challenges was ensuring that we could maintain high performance, particularly around the instant settlement of outcomes, without compromising the decentralization and security that blockchain provides. Base’s infrastructure has been integral in helping us solve this issue, providing the scalability needed to handle a large number of predictions simultaneously.

Real-Time Data Integration: While we have implemented real-time markets for certain categories like crypto and financial assets, adding more dynamic markets, such as live sports odds, presented challenges. Streaming and settling sports odds in real-time requires a significant amount of liquidity and a robust data integration layer. While we are still optimizing this feature, our current solution focuses on providing fast and efficient markets for price-based and event-based predictions.

User Onboarding: To ensure that both web3 natives and newcomers can easily adopt ForeCast, we needed to simplify the user experience. Building out social logins and creating a seamless mobile-first platform took careful design and iterative improvements. However, this has significantly reduced the friction users face when joining the platform and has improved overall engagement.
